Daily Commute
The UCSD campus is centrally located at 9500 Gilman Drive, La Jolla, CA 92093. The conference will be held at The Jeannie Hall — a lecture hall located on campus at 9615 Scholars Dr. N. Carpooling is encouraged. If multiple students from your home institution attend, your department may be able to facilitate carpooling arrangements.

- Shuttles: Limited shuttle services will be provided between the hotel and the conference site with a priority for attendees with limited mobility. More information can be found here.
- Parking: Parking information can be found here.
- Ride Share Services: Uber and Lyft are readily available throughout San Diego and can be used to reach UCSD. Uber or Lyft will cost about $10 one way between the hotel and the conference.
- Local Metro/Bus: The Blue Line trolley and various San Diego Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) and North County Transit District (NCTD) buses provide extensive coverage of the San Diego area, including connections to UCSD. The fares can be paid conveniently through the PROTON app (see UCSD Public Transit page for more information). NFC payment methods (Apple Pay / Google Pay / etc.) are accepted and a one-way ticket costs $2.50.

- Board Bus 30 or 101 at Villa La Jolla Dr & Holiday Ct.
- Get off at Gilman Dr & Mandeville Ln.
- UCSD to hotel (Southbound):
- Board Bus 30 or 101 at Gilman Dr & Myers Ln.
- Get off at Villa La Jolla Dr & Villa Norte.

Travel to San Diego
Travel Support
If you are traveling by air or long-distance train or bus and your travel cost is not covered by your department, your travel agenda and cost must be approved before you book your travel.
To receive travel support, please email cuwip2025-chairs@physics.ucsd.edu with subject line “Travel Support Request” before December 6, 2024 December 20, 2024 containing
- a letter from your department indicating they cannot cover your travel cost
- and a copy of the travel itinerary and cost (accepted formats include a screenshot, photocopy, electronic ticket, or any other official travel document).
Travel costs that are not pre-approved may not be reimbursed.
Air Transportation
- Airport: The nearest airport is the San Diego International Airport (SAN) located at 3225 N Harbor Dr, San Diego, CA 92101. SAN is about 14 miles from the UCSD campus. If you need us to reimburse your flight, please contact us at cuwip2025-chairs@physics.ucsd.edu before making your reservation.
- Free Airport Shuttle: Upon arriving at the San Diego airport, you are encouraged to take the free electric shuttle bus, the “San Diego Flyer,” from the airport to the Old Town Transit Center located at 4005 Taylor Street, San Diego, CA 92110. From there, you can take the Blue Line trolley directly to the UCSD Central Campus Station.
The airport shuttle operates seven days a week every 20-30 minutes, stopping at both Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 transportation islands before stopping at the Old Town Transit Center. These shuttles are recognizable through a branded light orange wrap with plane icons and the word “Flyer” across the sides. No reservation is required for this shuttle.
Ground Transportation
- Train: Take an Amtrak to either the Old Town Transit Center or the Solana Beach station.
- Old Town Transit Center (4005 Taylor Street, San Diego): From here, take the Blue Line trolley to the UCSD Central Campus Station, which takes about 40 minutes. You may use the PROTON app to pay the trolley fare.
- Solana Beach station (105 N Cedros Ave, Solana Beach): From here, take the 101 bus (at Hwy 101 & Plaza St) to UCSD, which takes about 30 minutes. However, please note that the bus wait time may vary depending on circumstances. You may use the PROTON app to pay the bus fare.
- Long-Distance Bus: Depending on where you are coming from, there are different long-distance bus services to get you to San Diego. Be sure to check which bus services are available near you.
- Flixbus: Regular buses are available for travel to San Diego. Purchase a ticket to San Diego (La Jolla – UCSD) station. From here, the UCSD campus is within walking distance.
- Greyhound: Your fastest route may be through the Greyhound bus. Purchase a ticket to “San Diego.” This will drop you off at the San Diego Greyhound Bus Stop located at 4005 Taylor St, San Diego, CA 92110. From here, take the Blue Line trolley to the UCSD Central Campus Station.
